  • Een droom die uitkomt! ✨ Vorige week was ik op bezoek bij @uitgeverijlemniscaat (een droom op zich). Na het bespreken van mijn prentenboekidee kreeg ik van Jesse Goossens een contract aangeboden!!! 🥳😱🤩 Die lach is sindsdien niet meer van mijn gezicht verdwenen (zie foto strip). Ik werk al even aan een fantastisch leuk project: een nieuw boek van @auteur.evydanckers illustreren. Mijn bezoek stond in het teken van kennismaken, een rondleiding bij mijn nieuwe uitgeverij (!!) en het bespreken van mijn schetswerk. Dat ik naar huis ging met nog een contract én het vooruitzicht dat mijn eigen prentenboek in het voorjaar van 2027 bij Lemniscaat verschijnt, had ik nooit durven dromen! Ik heb er ontzettend veel zin in! Het wordt fantastisch! 🤩 En ik zal jullie op de hoogte houden met hier en daar een sneak peek. 👀 Spannend!! See English text in comments
  • Een bezoek aan mijn eerste expo 🖼️✨ Mijn illustraties uit De laatste traan zo naast elkaar zien hangen, met mijn naam groot op de muur gestickerd… wat bijzonder! Extra leuk was het om An Van Daele, de schrijfster, eindelijk in het echt te ontmoeten. En grote dank aan @cctervesten , het cultuurcentrum van Beveren, voor het mogelijk maken van deze expo! Dit was één van de hoogtepunten van mijn ‘zakenreis’ door Nederland en België vorige week. Jullie zagen al de fantastische boeklancering van Wedstrijdje doen?! in het Wilhelmina Kinderziekenhuis voorbij komen. En er komt nóg iets moois aan… Morgen meer 👀✨ 🇬🇧 Visiting my first exhibition 🖼️✨ Seeing my illustrations from The Last Tear all together on the wall — with my name right there — felt incredibly special. So lovely to finally meet the writer, An Van Daele! Huge thanks to CC Ter Vesten in Beveren for making this exhibition possible.   • ✨Mijn eerste tentoonstelling!✨ Het is heel bijzonder om je eigen werk aan een muur te zien hangen! 🤩 En mijn naam in grote letters op de muur 🥹 ZO cool. De illustraties uit De laatste traan zijn te zien in CC Ter Vesten in Beveren. Ann Van Daele, de auteur van het boek, presenteerde ons boek in de bibliotheek. De tentoonstelling loopt nog tot en met 16 januari!   • ✨Sketchbook tour!✨ I always carry a pocket-size sketchbook with me, just in case a sketching moment pops up. This one covers May 2024 to July 2025. Inside you’ll find lots of playground and beach sketches, (some Bologna notes…) plus many different versions of Kasper 🤗.   • Hij is er!! ✨ De laatste traan is nu beschikbaar in je favoriete boekwinkel! Maak kennis met Maan 🤗 ´Daar glijdt de kano van kleine Maan over een groene zee, hier ver vandaan. Stellergaai bijt zachtjes in haar oren. Maan krult haar lippen en leunt naar voren. Ze blaast een zoete slingertoon over de zee. Het zeegras en de vissen zingen mee.´ Wanneer Maan haar ouders verliest in een verwoestende brand, volgt ze de raad van de Raaf en trekt ze weg. Haar tocht gaat niet over rozen, maar uiteindelijk bereikt ze de Bergen van Verlies, waar ze contact weet te leggen met haar voorouders. Een poëtisch verhaal voor tieners dat leest als een lied.   • Throwback to the amazing Bologna Children’s Book Fair 2025!✨ I met so many wonderful people: illustrators, publishers, and other book lovers. I even got to meet some of my idols (and some of Kasper’s idols too, can you guess which ones?🤗). There were fantastic exhibitions, like of course the BCBF Illustrators Exhibition and the BRAW book exhibit, but also the dPictus Out of the Cage @picturebookmakers exhibition and the small Felicita Sala exhibit at Liberia Giannino. I attended a lot of great masterclasses, of which I especially loved the talk by @sydneydraws , super inspiring! And of course the workshop by @loes_riphagen ! And let’s not forget the city of Bologna itself, such a beautiful place with the most delicious food! 😋 It was extra special to experience it all this year with my illustrator buddies @mimiyangillustration @julii.mcmillan @_leshistoiresdejeanne . We first met at BCBF24 and have been co-working ever since. This year we had a little retreat together after the fair, to let everything sink in.
